Contemporary dance is a dance genre that utilizes classical ballet training, modern dance and jazz styles of dance. It has become very popular in both the U.S. and Europe. Contemporary dance uses the controlled legwork of ballet and the upper body work from modern and jazz. It can be performed in soft ballet shoes as well as in pointe shoes.

Classes will teach the principles of modern technique and improvisation, while utilizing the students knowledge of ballet and jazz technique.

  • Contemporary 1, ages 10 and up, additional ballet or jazz classes required.
  • Contemporary 2, by placement for new students or for our existing Division 6 & 7 students, must be on pointe, additional ballet classes required.
  • Contemporary 3, by placement for new students or for our existing Division 6 & 7 students by teacher recommendation, must be on pointe, additional ballet classes required.

Dress Code

Leotard – black, pink or black tights, shorts, leggings or skirt may be worn over leotard, pink ballet shoes, pointe shoes for Contemporary 2 & 3.
